UNIT: Reading

TASK: Multiple choice

PURPOSE: Practice reading for detail

LEVEL: Lower Intermediate / Intermediate

Another worksheet in the collection of those designed to support teaching and learning of the topics related to sport, hobbies, leisure and healthy lifestyle in an ESOL / ESL / EFL classroom. By using this resource you provide the students with an opportunity for improving their reading comprehension, in particular – developing skills in reading for detail. This task also offers plenty of scope for reinforcing the vocabulary for the days of week, time, places and food as well as for recapping such language points as adverbs of frequency and the present simple verb forms.

As an extension task, the students can be asked to reproduce the text using the past simple tense. Another option is a discussion on  favourite sports – for this one you might consider ESOLworksheets picture prompts.

As soon as multiple choice tasks are widely used in ESOL / EFL / ESL tests, this teaching and learning resource could serve as a useful exam-preparation activity.
